TRIBUTE TO SISTER EDUE BLAY - Ms Aba Amponsa-Dadzie

Created by Tracey 3 years ago
We come from the same roots and tradition, yet I met Sister Edue later in life through a mutual friend, Mrs Afrifa. We took a likeness to each other because her father, Papa Lawyer R S Blay was my father’s good friend and members of the ‘DOMO’ Party. Papa Lawyer Blay used to invite my father Kofi Amponsa-Dadzie, late brother Boye and myself to join him and his late son Kwame to his farm by a river, where we had quality time eating good food and playing games while Papa Blay and my Dad got on with their discussions.  Older sisters Edue, Mokowa and Afo were not in our group then.

Sister Edue and I, therefore, became very close. I called her ‘Sister’ and she called me ‘Sweetheart.  When ‘Sister’ visited her daughter Selina in London, I would visit her in her very neatly kept flat and got her son Lawrence to bring her to visit me, notably when I had knee surgery. We came to know some of our close friends like Mrs Faustina Acheampong and many others, as well as our Families, who found her a joyful and warm person as well as fashionable and quite sophisticated, where we enjoyed her stories about her earlier life in England when she trained as a Nurse and shared her rich experiences with us, as practising practitioners. I recall with fondness some occasions when Mrs Afrifa and myself would go shopping and see elaborate large earrings, colourful clothing and adornments and giggle that Sister might like them; and when we gave them to her she would be so pleased, and made us laugh over it…

Sister Edue was loving, encouraging, full of laughs and liked talking about Politics and often filled me in with news about our Party, NPP and of course, Religion where we sang Methodist Hymns and enjoyed a most fruitful and inspiring Bible discussions.  She would have enjoyed the current American Elections and Ghana’s politics and have a good laugh over it all.

Sister Dear, you will be sorely missed but you are now resting peacefully in the Lord.
