Coming Home

Dear Mutti Edue,

for so many people, you have had an important and certainly unique meaning in their lives and will always be remembered by each one of them. May it be as Madam in Brian's Place, as a member and friend of the Tema Beach Club, as Zontian, mother of course, grandmother, friend and more... Our story begins when I was about 15 years old, during my summer vacation in Tema, at my father's and your then husband B.A. Adomako. You were the new wife following my mother, who needed to be met. Your offer to call you Mum, which is nothing unsual in Ghanaian tradition, I understood, was difficult for me at first. However, your devotion and care has convinced me and not much later you have become my Mutti Edue, the person who gave me a second home in Ghana. Your hopes and good wishes, for me to gain foothold in Ghana have enabled me to aspire a life for myself there.
Mutti Edue, you have introduced me to Ghanaian traditions, such as my first Kaba, which I wore and kept for decades until it did not fit anymore. You have given me so many more support and inspirations which I cannot all list.
Your everlasting participation in my life, and the one of my daughter Antonia have always been greatly appreciated. Even after your center of life within Tema has changed, friends of mine from Germany where welcome to stay; you were always a part of our lives. Despite all this I’m also grateful for Selina who was like a sister to me for a while when I lived in Ghana, and for Robert who accompanies me til today.
I admired your persistence, despite your handicaps, in still being positive, believing and caring about your appearance. I was reassured, as long as this was still the case, your spirit and will to live life, no matter what reason, was still awake.
Wherever you were at home, Antonia and I set out to visit you. Now you are no longer with us and we will miss you dearly and will keep you close to our hearts.

Thank you for your constancy, trust and love.

 Welcome Home. Mutti Edue.
